Questions

What is a DIGIPIN?

India Post's Digital Postal Index Number: a 10-character code for a spot about 4 metres by 4 metres anywhere in India, made from its latitude and longitude. Developed by India Post with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC (ISRO).

How is it different from a PIN code?

A PIN code covers a whole delivery area. A DIGIPIN points at one exact spot, such as your door. You can use both in an address.

Is the DIGIPIN shown here official?

It is calculated with India Post's own open-source method (published on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 licence), so it matches what India Post's tools give for the same spot. Your location's accuracy decides how close it is to your door.

Does my DIGIPIN ever change?

No. It depends only on the place, not on who lives there.
